COPS are such a$$holes

There again, earlier in this discussion someone said that RESPECT comes from both sides. And by the way, my buddy cop took a 30-06 round through his gut and is still alive and protecting the Public. SO take your pic, loss of vision or wearing a bag the rest of your life. Everybody has a war story to tell.
And the sad thing is the fact that my hat is off to you and respect you for what you did for our country, but you show no respect for the ones who are protecting you and your family here on the home front.

Get over it man YOU broke the law. YOU chose to do it and got caught.... MAN UP... He can still come back and issue you the tickets... If I was the Officer, I know I would be glad to come back and cite you..... then you could BITCH and COMPLAIN about the officer for citing you for all the violations.

oh i respect police officers and what they do. but there was no need to do what he did, sure i was breaking the law but if i was the only one he had to worry about at that point in time, they need to spend a little less time across the street at the gas station drinking coffee and spend a lill more time protecting then harrassing

I am a cop and I ride an ATV. I also own a trailer, so I don't have to operate my registered and insured ATV illegally. Trust me, every time you ride down the street, somebody calls and complains. I would imagine your playing stupid in the first 15 seconds "Who me?? What did I do?? I didn't know...." If you want to ride from your home without inconveniencing yourself, move to an area that allows it. My parents live in upstate NY and up there you can't ride an ATV on a snowmobile trail, were you even riding in a legal area? It's people who disrespect the rights of others who will eventually make it impossible for any of us to have any fun anywhere.

Since were on the subject, heres one for ya.... A friend of mine owns an auto repair shop just inside of town. He had his wheeler at his shop to fix a few things on it that his son had torn up. He wanted to use the quad to go hunting the next morning, so he drove it home. (he lives aprox. 1.5 miles away from garage) Well, he passed a sherriff on the way. The cop turned around, and chased him. My buddy went down a farm lane that belongs to his uncle, and hit a cable. The cable hit just below the handlebars, throwing him off and knocking the wind out of him. The cop gets out of the car and shouts to my friend (who is down on his hands and knees) "FREEEZZE!!!" The cop knew my friend, because he works on the county cars sometimes. Even after they made eye contact, when my friend went to upright the quad- because gas was running out of it, the cop shouts "DONT GO NEAR THE VEHICLE!!!"
We live in a town of around 2500 people, with little to no crime. The cop RIDES QUADS also, and my friend donates to the sherriff assoc. But this didnt stop "Deputy @#$%*" from giving him 4 must appear citations!
I no he shud have stopped, but our town has conjered up some "confinscation law" for people caught on quads.
I sure am glad to see my local tax dollars are SO well spent!
Didnt want to hi-jack this thread, but I just wanted to vent.
sorry

Bottom line is, we were not there and honestly cannot judge either side. But the fact is, finally, proxpilot for the first time admits he did break the law. I guess thats a start. I just hope that next time he thinks before he posts "COPS are such a$$holes" again.
He said that he was a Staff Sgt in the US Army, I have delt with many Military folks here in Texas from a traffic stop to a family violence situation. For the most, they are respectable, God fearing people. But I have dealt with several that believed that they were above the law because of their service. You would NEVER see me post anything about "Army Punks are a$$holes". I have more respect for the Military than that.

When you break the law, you put the cop on the offensive. If you dont break the law, then there usually is no problem. In all these stories, someone first broke the law, then the police reacted, why are they the "bad" guys in all this when all they are doing is their job. If we dont break the laws, then we wouldnt have to see the reaction of the cops(good or bad).

I agree, the law is the law, and the police are just doing their jobs. Most cops in larger cities have a LOT of CRAP to put up with in the run of a week. And I respect them for that.
It just makes no sense to me to chase someone on a quad, down a backroad, and chance paralizing the guy, or worse. Just because its against the law.
If its a kid that makes a habit of rippin up and down the road -yes- but for a first timer -no.

You know the sad thing is, people think they own a part of the Sheriff's Office because they donate money. Or believe that this will keep them aboe the law. Or the fact that the Law will look the other way if they are caught doing something they shouldn't. I see this every day.

I don't advocate chasing anyone, not worth the potential risks to the idiot who decides to run or anyone else invloved. Written warnings work well, it documents the ATV information and everyone goes home happy.
