Default oil in starter

Im not sure on quad starters but I do know that there some small engine starters that have oil in them. They are called Wet starters, and most starters don't have oil are called Dry starters. I have never had to take any starters apart on a Quad so I couldn't say but the gear reducer may have oil in that part of it.

Default oil in starter

there should be NO oil in the starter, possible leaking crankshaft seal or bad needle and seat

there isnt any oil in the crank shaft a t. blazer. just the little bit from the 2 stroke oill to lube. if its from the crank seal must not be very much in the starter.

The flywheel shouldnt be in contact with any oil , so how could it get into the starter?

yes pete there is no oil in the engine except what is being injected though the oil pump of the oil injection system via the oil tank. use only 2 stroke oil also.the machine shouldnt go though that much oil if its stock. wifes machine can fill it up 2 times w/ gas w/out worring about the oil. but dont let it run out or bye bye engine.

Id say the best way to find out if it is a wet starter is go to a dealer and talk to a mech. and see if its from the gear reducer. Could be just the grease from the gears got hot and liquafied and looks like oil. Its hard for me to say without looking. Im thinking the amature and brushes on that are dry. Did it look like someone had it off? The people you got it from could had tried to fix it if it was bad and poured oil in. When you buy something someone is trying to sell and they know something is bad they will do about anything to try to fix it without spending money.
