Starting to get more and mroe noticable until today it was sputtering like the reverse limitor but she still pulls to a good 60... when on the road it jerks every 5 to 10 seconds hard... first thing i did was change the plug and it still does it

Any suggestions on the basic things before i rip into it

Bad gas? Dirty air filter? Plugged fuel filter? Dirty carb?

my 500HO scrambler did that sort of thing once, and it actually turned out to just be a dirty air filter, take a look at that and your fuel filter before you tear anything too severe apart, a nice UNI or K&N for the 500HO is a nice addition because it is re-usable, the stock paper one i've found, gets dirty rather quickly and can eventually cause the sort of thing you're talking about. good luck.

I have a 06 500 EFI, when it came back for break in servie it was missing. I found that the plug wire that goes into the sparkplug boot was not all the way in. I twisted and pushed until it bottomed out and all was fine after that.

I do have a K&N installed... i dont think i have the oil on too think but i can reclean it just to make sure

I replaced my plug because i thought that may have been the problem so i know that boot is on tightly... i think i may have to change out the fuel filter and see if that changes anything

My quad starts as good as the day i bought it and idles smooth

I do have another question, is the fuel filter inside the tank and needs to be pulled out the bottom or is it inline with the fuel hose

the one on my '02 Scrambler is inline. It was under the front left fender and connected with some simple squeeze-type hose clamps... I'd suggest you don't get the Polaris replacement one either, but rather, one of those transparent ones from autozone or some place. hopefully that fixes it... keep us posted ! I had a similar thing with my 500 Scrambler. I checked the rev limiter, spark plug, air filter and finally removed the carb plug. When I unscrewed the jet and looked at it, a small black speck was visible. I cleaned the jet and it runs great again.
