Gwyette

Agh the internet is great!

Understand about the tool!!!

I have seen that manual for sale. I presume its useful?

Can you answer the other part of my last post:

"But could you first confirm that once I remove the flywheel and slit nut that the seal readily comes out and is easily replaced. The exploded views I have off the Polaris website are not very clear on what needs to be removed other than the flywheel."

Sorry for all the questions. And thanks much!

Treetops, I can't help with your question about the seal yet as we are still waiting on parts and haven't changed it yet. I will post up when I can but I am sure that someone else will chime in. Maybe gwyette will jump in here again. Sorry I can't help. Oh yeah, we picked up one of the Haynes manuals and it is worth every penny.

With regard to installing the seal, I believe we did it in fairly cold weather and had some difficulty installing the new seal even after warming the case and placing the seal in a freezer for 15 min. or so. I would assume it would go easier in warm weather.

Gwyette/Lawdog

Since no one else has chimed in, I am going to wait until I get the manual you mentioned before attempting to replace the seal.
In the meantime, I am monitoring the recoil starter drain and the cb oil level to see how bad the leak is. So far nothing at the drain but I haven't driven hard or long....(and only just fast enough to keep the blackflies at bay! They started late last week just as I was outdoors pulling the starter.)
Thanks again

Good luck, keep a close eye on it. If it starts making milkshakes, stop riding it to save yourself a bunch of cash. Check the dipstick often. Does your starter still work? You may want to go ahead and get it taken apart and cleaned so that it doesn't corrode and lock up. We wound up replacing the whole thing, one piece at a time trying to troubleshoot it. Alot of work that could have been avoided if my buddy would have taken a few steps early on and had kept up on simple maintenance. It has me checking both of mine religiously.
