Front end pulling problem
#1
Hey guys, I have an 04 500HO Sportsman. Im having a problem lately after going in reverse then shifting back into forward my quad pulls HARD to the right.. I usually have to shift back into reverse, travel in reverse for a foot or two then shift back into forward and everything is normal..
SO my question is do you guys think my front right break is sticking or could it be something in the front diff or CV joint.. Anyone hear of the problem before..
Thanks for any help

nah,my old xplorer had the same problem...the problem is in the 4x4 an verry comon on polaris atv's.not much you can do to fix it.what happen is the magnetic hubs for some reason sticks in 4x4.

The front right hub is not disengaging causing it to pull to the right. If you never did it they should be taken apart and every thing cleaned then add new oil. This should fix your problem.....

I noticed some oil is leaking out of the hug where the fill is.. I checked the levels and they were fine (added a little bit though) but it still does it.. If it is the hubs (and Im not doubting you guys) would it still do it if im in 2 wheel drive??
Thanks ALOT!!!

Hey - this is really not a big deal at all - just an inconvenience.
Polaris' 4-wheel drive is really an on-demand system - front wheels engage instantly if the back wheels begin to spin - even as little as 1/8 a turn - faster than the front wheels. They use a 6 or 8 pin system in the front hub to engage the 4-wheel drive system. (That's why the front tires have to be a different size than the rears).
My bike will do the same thing anytime I engage the transmission when the steering wheel is turned all the way in one direction, and then hit the gas and straighten out - the system is so sensitive it mistakes the difference in rotation as a wheel spinning, and locks up one of the hubs, which is why you get that pull to one side.
If it happens, simply stop, put it in reverse WITH the front wheels pointed straight ahead, back up 3-4 feet, put it back in forward gear, and keep the front wheels straight until you've traveled at least 2 feet. That will free it up. I spent a lot of time checking this out, as I was freaked out at first. I suppose you could just call it a design flaw, but it comes with having such a sensitive on-demand system.
I just try to remember to keep my front wheels straight when I put it in gear......
