Default New 850 Sportsman???

According to the Minnesota DNR (Polaris's home state), an ATV can be no larger than 800cc and 900lbs. Seriously...do you think any manufacturer will make a vehicle that cannot be licensed and ridden on state trails and expect to sell a lot of them? 850cc ATV? Not a chance.

Of course...Polaris will probably make a 799cc and call it an 850. =P

I think the outlaws looks pretty badass from behind, but in the shootout I read in dirt wheels they said it's better for slow techincal trails, whereas the raptor 700 wth EFI was better for fast trailriding..

they said each machine has their own benefits but i think it was a good idea putting IRS on a sportquad, definently something new.

my dealer said they wouldnt be surprised to see a 450 race quad released this year from polaris with the KTM engine of course

That's interesting, so I guess it's safe to assume we won't see anything larger then an 800 for a long time. I wonder if other states have this regulation and why?

Ya might see it more than 800cc's, but alas it will have an OHV rating, not ATV. Seems like most ATV trails do not allow OHV's on them either. At least the ones I have been on. That first sentence is coming from a memory of the last time I gazed at the MN ATV regulation book thingy, which was quite awhile ago, sooo.

"The 500 still had struts and same chassis just a made over front end with tubular racks. He thinks maybe the current sportsmans 450, 500, 700, 800 will be in same chassis, just cosmetically changed for 07."

Why would Polaris change a two year old body style? Especially one that contains so many molded components (Lots of tooling costs) This doesn't make sense to me.... unless it's a new model all together.... and what about Lock-n-Ride?

oh yeah, Hi, I'm new here.... been reading the forum for a while, thought it was time to finally jump in. with any luck I'll be taking delivery of a 500EFI this week!

I can't believe that Polaris would go back to Tubular racks... That ruins the whole Lock-n-Ride concept...

I think you are right about a 799cc and calling it a 850, lmao. I do think it will be a 850cc machine that will be released unless it is a LE for racing or something along those lines.

Did it say "850"? or is he just assuming that it was a SP800 on Steroids? I do not doubt that the machine could have been an 850cc, but I know Manufactures go thru great lengths to keep stuff like this under wrapes until they are damn sure and ready. I hope it is, I still will not be able to afford one.LOL

I will let yall know when I get back from the dealer meeting in August.

Is bigger really better? I had the chance to test drive an 800 SP a couple weeks back. Great machine. However, with the weight gain, why build a bigger one? If I may say this: this is the American way..."bigger is better". With current technology I don't think that this is a maxim. I think that the next step in advancing ATV technology will be in frame design. I might be wrong on this, but this appears to be where the industry is innovating.
