Default Sportsman 500 Ho

2003 model
Started it this morning and the speedo thinks its a tach and every time you put it in reverse it quits. I can start in neutral and hold the override and be ok.. Any Ideas?

Update: If you unplug the speedo sensor wire, the speedometer stops bouncing and the reverse problem goes away. The speedo sensor has been removed and cleaned with no change. The speedometer will start bouncing with just the key on and wierd display where mileage would be with the wrench icon blinking

Thanks,
Steve

Default Sportsman 500 Ho Reverse quitting

My Speedo on my sportsman was messed up as well for a while. When i was doing about 50mph, it would jump way down really fast, and jump back up. I thought there was something messed up with my speed-o-meter, but i took my right front wheel off and washed near the sensor really good and i have no problems now.

I have taken the sensor out and cleaned everything.. I guess it could be the sensor and the dealer thought the cluster because of the reverse issue.
What's really strange turn the key on and when your mileage shows, the needle bounces, the tenths increase and there is some weird display, looks like a s then the rest is strange..
I know there is a way to test the speed sensor to narrow things down, will have to find out again how to do it.
Thanks Steve
