BELT SLAPPING ON HOUSING
#1
The belt on my 98 sp500 (no EBS 2800mi)had been slapping against the housing since this spring. I had it into two separate dealers for related work and asked both to check the belt. The answer I got was "the slapping sound was normal, don't worry about it". Well I ended opening up the belt shroud after a hole got punched through it from the belt and guess what!
Hope this post helps someone else to save a couple of bucks. Meanwhile, I think a couple of my nephew's need some more education on proper gearing for riding applications.

You found out the hard way geno. The belt slapping on the housing is NOT normal and usually indicates a burned spot from being in high when conditions require low. Besides educating your nephews I’d start shopping for a dealer other than the two who blew you off.
