Trailblazers and no reverse
#1
I've read a number of posts on this topic and there are a lot of eBay TB's that don't have working reverse anymore. You shift into reverse and it just doesn't do anything, just like being in neutral. I have a 2000 Blazer that I recently obtained in this same condition.
I had a shop look at it and they replaced the bell crank on the transmission shift housing. That got the reverse light to come on, but still no reverse. The mechanic told me he could dig further, but the cost of rebuilding the transmission was probably more than I wanted to spend on an older bike. I agreed, ate the hundred bucks invested so far in parts and labor, and told him to leave it alone, I'd live without reverse.
My question is how many places are there in the Polaris PVT for reverse to go wrong. Obviously, since it seems to happen a lot (should we have a roll call?), there must be plenty. Is this a design flaw? On the other side, do I just live with no reverse or is there something a non-mechanic can try to pursue an inexpensive solution to this problem? (I'm not completely incapable, just inexperienced.)
I'm new to fourwheeling (2000 Trailblazer and 2002 Yamaha Blaster), but already enjoying it a lot. This is my first post on this forum.

The fix on the reverse is a simple one but you have to pull the tranny and take it apart. The snapring that holds the reverse gear in place has come off.Typical on these trannys.Should be a 4 hr job with minimal parts invested. But most dealers will get the cases apart and try to replace anything they can get by with.Main things would be a new clip and maybe a spacer to tighten it up and a silent chain ( amust when you take a tranny apart)
