SP 800 bad idle and no power
#1
I took my SP 800 out of the garage today to wash it. It started right up and then I turned it off and washed it then when I went to put it back into the garage it didnt' want to idle. After looking at the air box it was dry and I didn't use high pressure to wash it it was just a little squeeze gun on the end of a hose. The other night I was out of gas in my cans so I used about a gallon of gas from my cusins dirt bike that had some octane booster in it. It seemed to run fine the other night. So thinking it might be something with the gas I filled up about 2.5 gallons of regular octane and ran it for a while. This didn't seem to help. It has like 10 times less power than my SP 500 because of this. It also sounds like it is gasping for air when you let it idle, it does sound okay if you rev it up in neutral.
Could I have got water in something or is it something with the gas. Thanks for any help

Did you ride it in dirty or dusty conditions recently? I had a similar problem with mine, as long as I stayed on the gas it ran ok,,, as soon as I came to a stop or let off the gas, the idle dropped way low and it would quit. After postign on here, I found it was the throttle body was dirty. I cleaned it out and it again runs fine. Not sure if this would be your problem, but an idea. You could also maybe check the fuel filter or maybe the plugs to see what they look like to. Let us know what you find.

maybe you got water in your electricals. the SP800 has a 10:1 compression ratio i think so medium grade gas is required. lower than neccisary octane gas though would just give you pings, it shouldent make it run that bad. let it dry out for a day and see if it gets better

The gas wasn't low octane. It was 88 octane with some octane booster that was added (it was usually used in a 4 stroke dirt bike). I did take a look at one of the plugs and it looks okay.
RobD, did yours have the same power as normal when you were on the throttle because mine sounds okay when you get on the throttle but it doesn't have any power at all.

It seemed to, but we were trail riding,, and going pretty slow,,, so it was hard to tell. If you were in dusty and dirty conditions,,, it wouldnt hurt to check the air filter to see it is is soaked or clogged either. As Spyder mentioned,,,,,, maybe you got something wet and it needs to dry out some. Mine was starved for air, and when I cleaned the little bit of dirt out of the throttle body, it was fine again. Yours almost sounds different.....lack of power,,,,,,,not sure what would all cause that.. maybe the wet part or starving for fuel. I dont know if there is a way to check the filter or see if it is clogged or full of water? Does it seem like it is running on botrh cylinders? Bad plug maybe? Just some ideas..... hope you can find the problem soon.....

A few minutes ago I took off the spark plug on the right side of the atv and it looks fine but then when I went to put it back on I cant get the rubber plug to lock back in place. When I took it off I followed the instructions which said to turn it 1/4 and then pull it loose. I did this and it came off really easy but I can't get it to lock back into place.

I'm pretty sure it just didn't like that higher octane gas. I mixed it with some other gas and then I went and ran it for about 30 min and it seemed to clear it up.
Thanks for all of the help
