Default Sportsman 700 04 Carb Question

Ok so here is my question awhile back I post a question about my 04 700 not being has fast as a Sportsman 500 HO. Well that has not changed but I did notice something else that is weird and I am hoping this might explain my problem to someone.
I just got back from the Piute ATV trail in Utah and I checked my gas mileage each day and after 387 Miles I averaged 24.2 miles per gallon.
My question is this my 700 runs great just slower than I think it should and I know the jetting and clutch are right my dealer has also looked at my 700 and said it runs great but it’s slower than a 500 and my gas mileage is better than a 500 any ideas what is going on? This is a carb 700 and I have now raced it against 2 diffrents Sportsman 500HO with same results.

FYI
I have a K&N filter and I have changed the gas filter, emissions filter, spark plugs, and oil before I started this trip.

Default Sportsman 700 04 Carb Question

What year 500? they changed the clutching and they are faster now, my buddies '05 500ho will give me a run up to about 40mph then i walk away.

Also some machines, mostly '03-04's have cold weather start jetting updates it may be too lean on the main jet.

Default Sportsman 700 04 Carb Question

The 500's are 03 and 01. I was thinking about the cold fix for the 700's and I think mine has it because I have never had any problems with cold start.
I bought this ATV from a guy 2 years ago and he lives at 8500 feet above see level the warmest it gets where he lives is around 70s to low 80s at the warmest time of the year so I think he had it done and that is what I think caused the problem but I am not sure what to even look at or where to start.
Thanks for your help

Thats your problem.
The guy most likely bought it or had it adjusted to run at that evevation and at you elevation it is way too lean, not to mention the clutching changes for altitude.

Depending on what elevation your at it should be put back to stock specs (at sea level).

0-1800 ft /below 40 deg= 175 main jet , +40 deg= 162.5 main. 20-56 primary weights.

1800-3700 ft /below 40 deg= 150 main jet , +40 deg= 140 main. 20-54 primary weights.

it could be set much diff at 8500 ft! possibly a 120 main or something!

Look into it and adjust accordingly.

my specs were for a 2002 sp700 carb model yous should be close.
