'95 Scrammy, keep and mod or ?(would really appr. help)

Bought a 1995 Scrambler a few years back and it isn't in the best shape. Overheated last time I rode it. Still runs. Needs new chains, tires, exhaust gasket. Haven't checked the compression yet.
Here's the deal, I don't know whether to drop more $ into it or sell it and buy something else. I am torn between wanting a sport or 4x4, that's why I bought it in the first place. I also wanted something wifey could ride i.e. not shifting. I also want to be able to pull my sons without them having to choke on fumes, but that would only be a couple of times a year. I would love to make the Scrammy scream but it is a 95, has chain drive in the front, no concentric drive in the rear. Most aftermarket stuff won't fit. (All stuff I didn't know before I purchased it.)
I was thinking I could maybe get $1600 out of it. It looks pretty good, has decent Mud Machines in the back but could use fronts(mud sharks), though I have an okay set of stock tires and wheels. Extra set of plastic and seat.
Put another grand or two with the $1600 and buy something else. Prairie 650, Scrammy 500(almost seems silly), Grizzly 660, KFX700 or one of the many 400/450 sports. Maybe a Pred or outlaw. I could get a Rekluse for a manual tranny quad to try to appease the wife.
HELP!

Guess it must be a stupid question. I understand I must ultimately make the decision but I know some of you guys have been in this situation before.
I have a cooling issue I need to deal with either way, I guess. This sucks. I suppose I should get something newer I won't have so many issues with. It would be money well spent not to have to worry; in the long run I would probably would have the same amount invested anyway.

Thanks, I appreciate your input.
I am considering that but I am tired of working on this one. I already plan on buying a 50cc for my son(s). With the time and money I would put into the scrammy, I think I would rather have one good reliable quad for the adults. Otherwise I get stuck riding the mild one when the scrammy is broken. If it were a '99 or newer I would probably do just that. However, it seems I may have some more issues with the cooling system and I would not get rid of it knowing it has a problem without taking it out of the price and I can't afford to lose my *** anymore than I have.
I paid $2250 in 2001, have ridden it maybe 4 or 5 times because of time and everytime out it seems I have to fix something else. I know I am going to lose money and all I have done is make it better than it was. I am getting ready to go out an see about the cooling system as I write this. If it is truely bad I don't know what I will do.
I just want to enjoy riding again.

If you are going to buy a newer Polaris make it a 2001-up.They made huge improvments.

Bitched and whined about all the crap with the Scrammy. Wifey said, "get rid of it." She knows damn well I am getting something else. Just cool like that, I guess. Probably why I married her. Anyway, she was always complaining about having to shift and that she didn't want me to get a sport, or so I thought. Turns out she is cool with having to shift, just not a clutch.
Pred/outlaw with a rekluse may be the solution.
