Default More 800 oil filter options?

I, like others, have been following the discussions on various oil filters for the 800's and other models that use the same filter. Crossing the numerous filters discussed I have found that a K&N HP-1010 crosses to the Pure One PL14610 and the Wix 51356/Napa Gold 1356 and the AC Delco PF 2057. An HP-1006 crosses to the Wix 51357/Napa Gold 1357. K&N does not list either of these filters as an Polaris application. I looked at the specs and other than some slight relief variations the filters match up dimensionally perfect. I also obtained the HP-1010 and compared it to the PF 2057 and to the stock Polaris. No difference. Has anybody used the K&N on their quad? Is so, any probs? Thoughts?

Just make sure when you buy the filter it says made for "your ATV" dont just cross another filters number. If you need to make a claim, close wont cut it.

I understand your point but there are few, if any, aftermarket filters designated as such for the 05-06 800 or models that use the same filter. Up to 04 no prob. And I wasn't suggesting just cross and go. I try to analyze all the data available on the crossed filters and compare it to the stock filter as well as listen to others who have used a particular filter for some time. I have installed the K&N HP-1010 and it seems to work fine. One advantage of it is the nut on the end eliminates the need for the filter wrench which is a slight issue with the tight fit of the filter. Since I had not seen this filter mentioned, I thought I would put it up as another option for use or discussion. We will see how it works.

They did'nt say why. But I thought I would take there advise.
I am using a Wix 51356 and that IS fo a a 2006 800EFI

I know it doesnt make much sense but. We all know how easy it is for them to say "Thats not the right filter"

I hate to belabor the point but the Wix 51356 listed applications are nearly every Japanese make and Chryler import made (See wixfilters.com) and there is no application listing for a Polaris ATV at all. You get the 51356 as, yes, a cross to the 2540086 Polaris which I think proves a point that Wix has done a better job on their interchange listing than other sites but the fact still remains that the applications listed by Wix do not include the Polaris and it is a cross. With that said it is clear to me that Polaris selected a filter made in part or in whole by a larger manufacturer of car filters and there is nothing special I have seen about the Polaris filter that makes it unique for the application. As another example, the NAPA Gold is made by Wix and the NG 1356 is identical to the Wix 51356, but NAPA listed no application, by interchange or otherwise, for the Polaris' running the 2540086. The Wix you selected is a great filter for our quads but it is clear that a lot of other brands work as well, the AC2057, Pure One PL14610, Super tech ST7317 and the K&N Hp-1010and 1006 to name a few. The Amsoil site lists the Wix 51357 as the recommended filter for the 800 which is identical to the 51356 except it has a lower burst strength and a slightly different relief rating. The conclusion, I think, is that there is really a myriad of options in oil filters for the 05-up spts and very good options at that with great prices. IMHO.

I just pay the 9 bucks and not worry about it. I don't have to change the oil in mine no more than 3 times a year anyway and the cost difference isn't worth the risk of losing prime on an oil pump or something to me.
