03 700 Running like crap, (suddenly)

If it runs good at idle, then it most likely isn't stator. (not sayin it's not.) You have been testing this with the air box lid on, correct? Put the air box lid on backwards and run it and see if it changes. It's possible to have an issue with air getting to it, maybe something is blocking it when it is on and under the cab against the gas tank. Run it with the air filter off and the lid on it, Does that help? I know this stuff sounds stupid but if you iliiminate everything that is simple it can lead you into a closer chance of diagnosis.

Just thought of something. Is there a carb vent line that runs up along the air box snorkel? Have you checked that to make sure that it is not plugged or blocked or kinked at all? This could cause your symptoms.

There is a vent line and it's not clogged. I have tried with airfilter & w/out. I even took the rear carb boot off to see the fuel squirt down. Now it's starting to get a little black in there due to all the unburned fuel. I cleaned it with carb cleaner. Is it possible that the main jet is loose and dumping fuel into the cylinders? Fuel is backing up and getting the airfilter wet with gas and a little puddle of fuel in the rear boot.

I did check the float, it seemed fine. It was even and moved freely. I sawe the long needle valve but I didn't do anything with it. I don't know much about carbs so I just checked the bowl and put it back together.

You checked the vent line thatcomes off the rear part of the carb itsef. there is two ports on the carb, one on each side. One has a plug on it and the one on the other side has a clear line on it that runs up along the airbox lid snorkel, are you sure that is the one you checked? Try pulling it off the side of the carb and running it to see if it makes a diff. The only other thing I can think of is the choke plunger in the carb, it ma not be releasing all the way when you push the choke **** in. Had this happen to me.

If it was me I would take the carb completely apart and clean it and look for worn parts. If you have gas backed up in the air filter and rear carb boot you have a fuel problem. You ethier have a restriction some where restricting air causing you to run rich or you have some worn parts in the carb.

Definately a way to much fuel problem. I could probably take the carb apart but not to sure how to check for all worn parts. I think I will let the dealer do that this time. If it is the carb it's weird that it was fine when I rode allday and when I put it away at nigth and the next day, boom it wont run above idle. Anyhow it is getting WAY to much fuel and can't burn it fast enough.
