Need info about front AWD gearbox
My neighbor has a 2001 Sportsman 500 and cracked the front gearbox case yesterday. Do you know what years would work as a bolt-on replacement? What's a decent price for one and would you recommend putting the old gears into a new case or just buying a complete one?
Anyone have one they want to see put to good use?
Some ride we had yesterday: 2 slashed sidewalls (Honda & Polaris), 1 cracked gearbox (Polaris), 1 bent axle (Warrior) and bent bars and smashed lights on a rolled Scrambler... Luckily, I was unscathed.
Thanks.

I have no part or descent price, I would do research on parts/labor between the 2 options. I would assume an eBay used diff would be easy to come by. Use this microfiche to do your part number research. Make sure the first thing that you do on that link is "change vehicle" and select your atv. You could check years prior and after to see when the p/n changes. This will help you out with the years that intetrchange. A dealer may also be able to help you out, come Monday!

Thanks Instigator. I'll look it over and compare it to his, but it doesn't show a regular 500 for '01. His doesn't say H.O.
Cornbread, I thought you'd have to be going pretty ballz out to bend one too, but it's definitely not as straight as it was. He wasn't jumping either. Just flying up this hill and nailed the rear tire into a sawed off branch that was like mid-tire height. Spun the Yammer to the right and threw him off into the middle of the trail. Didn't realize it until later, so it's not way out of whack...
