Hey guys I was just wondering if you guys could help me out. I was in the chat room on Saturday just talking about getting a scrambler. I stated that the new 2x4 500 is suppose to be faster than the 4002x4 and then next thing I know I'm being called an idiot, a genius, and being put down for saying the 500 is faster than the 400 2x4. So can you guys help me out, is the new 500 2x4 faster than the 400 2x4? As for that chat room, what a bunch of losers in there.I don't think I'll ever go in there again.

I own a scrambler 400 2x4 and it does 70mph, I'm geussing the 500 does about 66 to 68mph. If you compared the 4x4 models thoughs are the speed ratings you'll get. Take in consideration that the 500 is a 4 stroke and the 400 is a 2 stroke, the 400 has the edge.

Polaris has tried to make the 400 and the 500 as close in performance as possible in stock form. And from first hand experience I can tell you they are. If you had 10 new of each you will find a 400 that will beat a 500 and vice versa with out a doubt in every group. I have a 2000 Scrambler, 400 4x4 and a 2001 Sportsman HO. When I bought the Scrambler I new I would eventually want more speed from the machine. The bottom line they both start out the same (400 and 500) performance wise but you pay more for the 500 up front. Once you feel the need for more speed you spend a couple of hours yourself in the garage installing a pipe, clutch kit, air-box mod and reeds. You now have about the same amount spent as if you had bought the 500 but just added 10%-20% more power. There is just no way today to get horse power out of a four stroke as cheap as you can out of the two stroke! If you still feel you need more power maybe you should be looking at a $20,000 Banshee.
