Default AWD Caution

Well I put it back up on blocks again, I unpluged the wire going to the diff, and gave it some gas and sometimes it kicked into AWD as soon as the the rear tires turned as if the switch was on, I can even turn the rears by hand and it will still engage.

Is it supose to disegage as soon as the switch is turned off or do you have to back up to get it to disengage.

Polaris front gearcases have a magnetic polarity system that when electricity is supplied to the coil it engauges a plate which in return engauges the awd, when you spin the rear tires at a high speed the plate is creating unwanted restriction in 2wd so in return engauges both front tires. In 02 on the new 700 polaris had a bunch of these issues and found a new friction plate and cage that corrected this issue but haven't heard too much on the 06's.

02 engage at the hubs and 04 and newer engage at the diff, but I dont know if it is still the same stet up.

On the 06s is the AWD supose to disengage as soon as the switch is turned off or do you have to back up to get it to disegage.

With this atv a person may need to take front gearcase out and correct the problem. It maybe a friction plate, cage, or sometimes the coil is set too far into the side cover so may need replacement. Don't overlook the rollers inside as they may be pitted causing the awd prob. The system works really good even though it has a few corks in it. If it is an 06 have your dealer run the vin # to see if it is still in warranty.
