Arctic Cat has the 700EFI for 2007. And come on guys, the Speedrack, shift on the fly 4x4, diff locker, ground clearance, and other points make it a great quad. It did win the quad terrain challenge

Does anyone know if these are going to be state trail legal in most states? I thought I heard one time that some states have an 800 lb. limit also? Does anyone know the current standards as to what is legal and what is not? I checked into it with a Rhino awhile back and was told they can't be ridden/driven on the trails. Thanks, Brian

Dbeck,
Were you able to find a video link of the Rzr demonstrating
its capabilities? I may have missed a post with the influx of
replies to this thread.
Thanks much!

they just did a modern Diesel ATV. i can't remember if it has EFI or not
Which struck me as curious because Polaris built a diesel ATV (which I tested) about 6 or 7 years ago. It didn't sell and they stopped making it. I'm wondering what Arctic Cat has planned for the diesel that they think will make it successful?
My guess is there are far more ATV's used for work now, and more attachments. Also, you can probable get away with using farm fuel which is far cheaper.

I think Arctic Cat expects most of there deisel to go to europe too, where like 50% of the cars already run on deisel.
Dave, you have a good review of the RZR. Last year you were able to test a Prowler and had good marks for that too. Could you give us a direct comparison of the two?

That was the theory behind the Polaris diesel, too, which was that they would sell in Europe where most things run on diesel. The problem with the Polaris diesel was performance was anemic. It required a huge flywheel to have enough mass/kinetic energy to carry the engine through the compression stroke. They were not able to get enough weight in the flywheel alone, so they also put a steel clutch on it! Well, imagine what happens when you hit the throttle and you need to spool up all that weight? It took a long time and acceleration wasn't great. I think the main reason the diesel didn't sell very well is because it wasn't much fun to ride -- although it would pull a lot!
I have not had a chance to test the Arctic Cat diesel or talk to Arctic Cat about it. I would like to learn more about their engine and how they overcame some of the obstacles with putting a diesel into an ATV. They do their research and I'm sure they have a plan for where it fits in the market. I hope that we'll get to see the diesel at a press event some time in the near future.
I liked the Prowler a lot. In the realm of utility side-by-sides the Prowler is a very good machine. It handled well, had great power and has the capacity to do a lot of work. I would not hesitate to recommend (if I ever made recommendations, which I don't) the Prowler to someone.
The difference between the Prowler and the RZR is akin to comparing a pure utility ATV to a sport utility ATV.
The RZR blurs the line between work and play. If you needed to work first, play second -- you might look at the Prowler or another brand side-by-side. But if you like to play first and still have a side-by-side that will do a decent job with plowing and other work, then the RZR might be a good fit for you.
Why you sense excitement and enthuisasm is because the RZR fills a niche for people who are primarily trail riders but want to work with their side-by-side, too. I believe that you will see the other manufacturers follow suite with more sport orieented side-by-sides in the future. I am excited because its fun to see the industry moving in a new direction and to see the choices that are becoming available to us as ATV enthusiasts.

This is just a theory on the arctic cat diesel but. ATVcorp who makes the Prowler RTVs for the military could have contracted them to develop the diesel engine for the prowlers and Arctic cat decided to put it in a civilian atv aswell.
