About Honda and a side x side, from what I hear it might be more odessy like and a single seater. I have always liked Honda for always having a quality product and great ergos, but I want a side x side vehicle that actaully has 2 seats, hence the side x side name for this class.
About the Diesels, OFC makes a good point, every machine the army uses are diesel to keep only one type of fuel out on the fields, including motorcycles which they convert, and they do use the Prowlers that have Diesels in them........hmmm

If you check the spec on the MV8 Polaris is making for the Mil you will see it will run JP8 full witch is a type of diesel so I think they like there stuff to run an alot of differnt fuels. As far as other making a SxS to compete with the RZR being Polaris patended the mid engine setup they are using will that cause the other brands to find an new way to put there motor?

Essentially. there are two types of patents. A Utility patent and a design patent. I just can't see the placement itself receiving a utility patent, which is what carries more weight (tougher to get around). If it's a design patent, others will find a way - trust me.

Sure hope Honda come out with a 2-seater, not single! However, even a single seater machine would be nice, with roll bars, etc. For this over-the-hill rider the helment is a big nuisance for just putting around the back country doing photography and locating old mines. Now if somebody would integrate a GPS and mapping system into the dash. Hey, it WILL happen, but the manufacturer's marketing stragedy is to release just enough features year-by-year to achive sales goals. for the time being will use my PDA or laptop with USGS maps and GPS. Don't want to get lost, it's usually a LONG walk back to the truck for this senior citizen!
As far as the Polaris laterally-mounted mid-engine being "patented", some particular part of the design might be, but not the bigger picture of a sideways mounted center engine. This is essentially what Honda does now in their ATV's. If this was possible, there would be only one automobile manufacturer out there with a sideways engine and front-wheel drive.
I am REALLY looking forward to this revolution in side-by-side design! Can't wait to see what others are coming out with. Rhino look out! Hey, maybe Honda will do a 48" wide machine, making it trail legal in many states that the current crop of machines are not.
