2008 Polaris RZR Ride Review and Video
#42
I wish they would take the Sportsman 800 EFI with PVT and slice it down length-wise to create a street-legal two-wheeled motorcycle. Have the ATV crew design it and use ATV customers and owners as a focus group (rather than using Harley or Victory dudes) and build a completely different motorcycle. I'm in the market for 2-wheeled transport to get to work and run erands around town but don't want to join the Sportbike pretend boy racer wannabee club or the Cruiser pretend Hells Angel wannabe club. I like the Sportsman look. Why can't a motorcycle have an outdoorsey look, fat tires, and flat-racks front and back? A motorcycle version of the Sportsman.

I can see $699 for the 14" wheels and tires as a standalone price, but this is ourageous if they are from the factory and instead-of the stock wheels/tires. My first impression is Polaris will be accessorizing the RZR to death, with very little as standard equipment for the base $10K price. Hope they come out with several "package" deals, but obviously this won't happen until the "new model rush" has died down.

Okay I watched the video it looks awesome, but
I didn't see any video of anyone riding it in action.
Is there any video to demonstrate its all over ride?
(Speed, handling, climbing, mud, water, rock etc. etc.)
Really impressed, not sure if the wife would
let me spend 10k though, I couldn't even get a SP700
wife approval, boo hiss..
Thanks,

Yeah, we'll be posting our action video either Monday or Tuesday. I'll post a link in this forum when it's online.

As soon as I find out if indeed they will be trail legal in most if not all states, the Sportsman 700 is history. That is the one and only thing that has kept me from buying a side by side. I wouldn't trust my youngest son for along time on some trails I plan on hitting soon, and this is a perfect and safe way for him to enjoy it. Some of the dropoffs I see in Colorado look scary when you have children. Look at these pics and you'll see what I mean. 300 lb capacity rear I'll rig up something for his 50 kiddie quad in the back. That way he can ride when easy, load and go when it gets rough. Brian Text

Yamaha already makes the TW200, and almost any outdoor magazine will have a advertisement for a two wheel drive motorcycle; I can't remember the name right now. Of course, you will still look like a pretend wanna be supercross racer!!!!

Hi Everyone,
I heard back from Polaris with answers to a few of the questions that were posed. The remaining questions are currently still with Polaris engineering. I'll post those answers too, after I receive them.
1) There will not be a standard and deluxe RZR model.
2) The trailer hitch is welded.
3) Polaris does not offer packages for the Ranger RZR. Accessories are purchased separately. A dealer could do some special packages, but you would need to work through your dealer on that.
These are now my personal comments.
Regarding the size of the hitch -- I suspect that the 1500 pound tow rating is derived from what the frame can safely handle, and what the machine can safely tow, without being dangerous or potentially damaging anything. I'm also assuming that the size of the hitch was chosen to keep people from exceeding the towing limitation of the vehicle.
However, it would not be difficult to grind the welds and remove the old hitch, then TIG a new hitch into place. Painting the weld area is the main problem, because the paint wouldn't match the original powder coating. I'm sure the warranty would be voided and the owner would have to assume liability for the modifications. For those (and safety) reasons, I would suggest that the hitch not be modified. But it can be done. If I liked everything about the vehicle except the hitch size, I'd find a way to deal with the hitch.
