did you buy is used and abused... how long have you owned it..as far as the chains are you sure you had them mounted corectly and were they the right size.. i have had a set on my old john deer for 5 or 6 years, and they have been great.. you are not supposed to spin past 10 or 15mph w/ chains on you could hurt your self or others ..if not try the big fat black zip ties..just thoughts................

I'm going to go out on a limb and post this b/c my husband (atvwaste) is not yet up and I'd like to clarify for what it's worth what I can offer. His demoralized posts were a result of his having experienced a greatly disappointing/stressful breakdown w/ his atv yesterday, and having to push it a great distance to get it back into our garage, having expected to enjoy his day tearing up the snow with his kick-%$# atv. We purchased our 2004 Polaris 500 new, it has 58 hours of use, has had it's first oil change and is near due its second, has a battery kept charged, is garage kept, never been abused. He rode it for a bit on Sunday in expectation of this storm to be sure it was well tuned, etc. He has, in fact, plowed snow w/ this machine quite successfully and before yesterday had never even used the chains we purchased. Yesterday the machine wouldn't move the ice pack on top of the snow so he put on the chains...thought that he'd ride over it a bit to break it up then plow...drove the thing about 500' to our neighbor's drive, turned around, one chain came loose...while idling/replacing the chain, it cut out. He commented that the fan was still running once it died. He thought it had perhaps overheated in the effort to get through the ice...but anyhow, it never started...not even a glimmer of hope when pulling (he never uses the key start). He checked battery connections, etc...no evidence of moisture anywhere obvious....In any case, this may not be greatly helpful but at least can end the speculation that atv waste is a trolling loser or an inept operator. Thanks to the respectful and folks here to recognize that he's just greatly disappointed and frustrated.

Welcome to the forums Mrs atvwaste.
Thanks for trying to clarify the symptoms a little more.
Hopefully, you'll get some good advice as to what the problem is, and get him back out there "working"
Unfortunately, I don't get that kind of weather down here, so I can't really give any ideas as to what might have happened.
Now that you guys know the story, how about a little help.

I can certainly sympathize with atvwaste, the sp500 is certainly a very capable machine and should serve you well, you first post might of come off as a troll, but don't give up, I am sure it is nothing that serious and I hope you get it resolved. Keep us posted.

Just how cold was it when he was out?
Only thing I can think of is it has something to do with fuel. Either a frozen line, maybe kinked or broken too.
I know I've turned the petcock valve to off on mine, and the forgot to turn it back on. After 15 minutes of cursing the gas that I had just bought, I found the problem.
