Actually, when mounting chains it is easiest to air down the tire, then mount the chains tightly and air it back up-the expanding tire will tighten the chains perfectly.

Just another opinion. These bikes come out of the factory on the lean side because of epa and usually jetted for summer. So with the temperature being so cold it makes the lean condition even worse. Sounds like you are running a lean condition. Once the bike got outside and in the cold under the lean condition this could contribute to the engine running hot (i.e. fan on) and once it died a lean engine is hard to start especially in the cold. After cranking for just a short time like others have said you fouled your plug.

Run the lowest octane fuel you can, put in a new plug, put the bike back in the warm garage and try it again.

The black bungee cords sound like a real good idea, then they probably would have stayed on. I just pushed the atv a few feet by hand and readjusted them a few times but cords would have probably kept them on better. I do need to get the machine serviced so I'm prepared to spend a bit on getting it fixed. It has just under 60 hrs and all that has been done is an oil change at 30 hrs so it needs to go in anyway. I guess I just thought I could get through this winter since it had run rather well up until this point. Thankfully, this time at least, a neighbor with a bobcat took pity on me.

Atvwasteonce you get the bug worked out youll like the quad the sp500 is a real workhorse. The one thing i did to my plow is ty wire a 20 pound weight right behind the blade it really helps the blade stay down in the snow. And one more thing you wont hurt that starter at all buy turning the key.the recoil is on there as a backup.

I do like the machine and it has done very well for me in the past. I wouldn't have gotten nearly so angry at it if it had just not started in the first place and not have gotten me out into the neighborhood first. It is a very humbling, not to mention exhausting, experience to have to push your quad home in a snowstorm to a chorus of "what's the matter, did it quit on you." I have an appt. for full service to be done Tues. the guy said on the phone a lot of machines have been having problems with motor kill switch cable from the cold weather, so who knows, but I'll post back when I find out. Incidentally when I have used the pull start is when the machine is cold. I've just been worried that I'd run down the battery before it got running good if using the electric. I use the key start when it's warmed up. I guess that's not something I should really worry about since I do have a battery charger now, but I still have just done it by habit.

its funny, but the bike will start better on the pull start i have noticed in the past w/ my old 500,trailblazer. not sure if you use the winch or by hand w/ the plow but if by winch just remeber it takes alot of the battery and takes alot ot charge it back up. not a bad idear to put it on the charger when finshed. hope its a simple and cheap fix.

The winch for the plow is a big reason I have done the pull start when cold. I want to be able to get the plow off the ground once I get it started and not have to idle 20 min. first.
