Once again, cooler female heads prevail. My appologies for my former disparaging remarks, but sometimes the product bashing here gets old. Hey, it's an imperfect world, machines break down. To me, if the engine just stopped and the fan kept running, I'd be real suspisious of the fuel. Definitely take off the carb and gas line and check for water/ice. good luck.

mr and mrs. atvwaste, on behalf of us forum surfers (at least some of us) we try to help as much as possiable w/ enough information given. some people do come on here to start some crap about brands and we do take it heart. but as we can truely see, you 2 are indeed of need of help and are not one of those. anyways have your husband tell us what it was doing. meaning did it run out of gas, back fire, just shut off like turning the key,or did it stumble before it quit. some things to look for is like mentioned, gas turned off( it does happen to the best of us) has he checked to see if its firing(getting spark). make sure the gas hasnt got water in it as well. it could freeze the line or in the carb. check a few things and get back to us and we'll try to help you out.

It's mr. waste this time. Still no start up today, not so much as a stumble. Gas is nearly full and atv ran fine several days ago before snow and started fine on the day of snow so it seems unlikely, at least to me, that the gas is the problem. I had it idling while installing chains with no problem, as we got at least an inch of hard ice on top of several inches of snow. I needed about 1/2 throttle to get up the about 600' slight incline to our closest road and made it seemingly ok, but the plow did not move much b/c of the ice. I had to make a 3 point turn in close quarters b/c of a neighbors large pile of snow which caused me to lose a chain. I was replacing chain, atv was idling fine and then suddenly the idle slowed and quit before I would even have had a chance to give it a little gas. Even though the engine stopped the fan was still running until I turned off the ignition. I was not particularly alarmed and figured it would just restart, wrong. I never got a stumble out of it, let it sit to cool off and tried again several times. I could smell gas if I used the choke too much so it must be getting gas. I had a he11 of a time pushing it back home through the snow, sure would be nice if you could lock the front wheels straight for when you need to push it. I understand my name sounds like a troll, but it was simply an expression of my frustration. I'm having the dealer come get it and I'll post back when I have resolution and let people know what this ends up costing me.

I would bet on water in the fuel system. Get it somewhere warm and add some fuel line antifreeze and see if that works. My 800 is acting up right now. I think there is a drop of water in the injector. When its warm it runs fine when it gets below freezing it will only run on one cylinder.

This is my guess.
There is a condition called "Carburetor icing" I have experienced this in my truck.

This link explains it fairly well. http://www.misterfixit.com/carbice.htm

I think that your plug is fouled, that's why it won?t start.

Your wife said you don't use the electric start, you pull start it, why?

This is how keep your chains on , I make the inner chain a little tighter then the outer chain ,and then use one or two black rubber bunge to keep it really tight .I've never had a chain fall off when you do it this way ,
also do you put your chains on ,then jack up the machine and rotate the tires several times ,this sets the chain on the tire ,then retighten the chain and then put your bunge on ,I've had my machine up to40MPH with chains on ,no problem .
