Default Engine idle speed eratic

Wonder if anyone has any ideas. What is happening with my 05 Phoenix is it starts with no problem but the idle is high and the idle adjust screw does nothing at all.
Happens hot or cold. Choke cable is tight and works fine. Give it gas and it revs but goes back to its high idle?

Thanks

you sure the choke isnt sticking open a little, maybe the thottle carb is not ajusted right or its catching on something where its routed. the only thing that could make it idle high is that its got an air leak, sucking more air then gas making it run lean. jsut a couple of idears to check.

I think that the throttle cable needs to be adjusted. Is there any free play at the thumb throttle ? If not there is an adjuster on the cable housing about 5 or 6 inches from the throttle housing. Try adjusting that untill you have 1/8 inch of freeplay at the thumb throttle. After you do this you will have to readjust the the idle screw on the carb and then recheck for freeplay.
