Worn belt?
#1
I just noticed on my last run my RPMS are running high, 5100@25mph, the belt does not slip, but it doesn't have the pull anymore it once had. Belt has about 1500 miles on it. The ride is a 2006 SP 500EFI. I also heard about some people swapping the belt for a 700 belt, somebody thought the only difference is a the 700 belt is grooved both sides for better cooling, don;t know if it is true, anybody got suggestions?
Thanks

roger, that was my fix for my 02 500. but im not sure but your belt may already have it. i would almost say thatt he secondary clutch isnt shifting out. as it has rollers it cant be the buttons. maybe the spring has an issue. broke or come un hooked. just an idear.

Thanks for the reply, I decided to pop the cover off and visually check the belt, nothing looks broke, but the belt does look worn a bit, and a few small cracks starting to appear on back side of belt. I don't have any verniers to measure it (yet), so I can only assume it is done.
Blew out a lot of belt dust too, so I guess I answered my own question. The belt must be worn enough that it changes the drive ratio as it gets worse. Nice symptom to know about. Everything else looks fine now, I will put new belt on this week, and if anyone is interested I will post some pics of the old vs new belt.

yea good ahead post pics. while you have it off did you make sure the drive and driven clutches work right? while its in park/neutral start itup w/ cover off and rev it up to see how the clutches are working to make sure they shift all the way out. the belt should be up top and fall down in the driven when its reved up.

Ill get some more pics and even try a video of the clutches working. Should post in a day or two, gotta get to the city to buy the new belt.
