sounds like you might as well pull the carb off and service it anyways. if theres gas leaking out the check valve then maybe the float has an issue. make sure you check the oil as well, because if it flooded that bad the oil might be full of gas as well. btw the pics. arent up yet.

I got a 400 explorer that I think is the same engine as yours, pics are the same. although its a 2 stroke you still have to check the counter balance oil. The dip stick is on the right hand side( sitting on) below the carb. if its is milky looking, search this site for "counter" and you will get everything you need to know. the c.b. has a vent that is vented to the bottom of the frame. You need to move this up by the breather to keep from getting water in the cb. I have all my vent lines hi. pull your hoses off the carb and blow thru. make sure clear. check the carb to make sure the bolt on bottem is tight and no hole. hole caused by vibration and repaired with jb weld. If you have a 2 stroke oil tank you should have a fiter. trace the lines from the oiltank and youll find it. Get a repair manual ASAP. If it helps you w/ 1 repair it will pay for itself. Read everything in this forum under 400, explorer, 2 stroke, trailblazer. There is a ton of info in here that will help, it has me.
