Hey I'm looking get a new ATV and Ive always been interested in the Polaris Sportsman.. Ive been looking at the bigger 700 and 800 beasts and was wondering how they ran. Its been a toss-up between the Sportsman or the new Yamaha Grizzly 700. Anyone have any input on how they go or suggestions?

Well you can't go wrong with Polaris Sportsman in the ride comfort side(I.R.S.+MacPherson Struts).......................With the engine size will be up to you .....How fast do you really need to go is the question.........And are you the type that you always wants and need more power if it's out there...............Good luck with your choice!!!...Caper..........

I own three sportsmans and love them most of the time. My 800 has been no problems in 1.5 years and 1000 miles. Its fast and has real good storage. I liked the fact that it came with good tires and rims. Its a proven chassis with a good motor. The grizz is a very nice package and if I were to buy another wheeler I think this would be it. I like the power steering and front electronic diff lock, but its lacking in the rack and storage department.

He pretty much summed it up. The Sportsman is a hard working machine. Polaris makes a bullet proof suspension with outstanding underbody protection. The 500 H.O. is the flagship engine for Polaris. It's proven and has been used for years. My X2 with it's 500 has been through swamps, sand dunes, rock crawling, and mountain climbing. It's plenty of engine. My next one will be an 800 and I'll pass off this X2 to my wife b/c we want 2. I am just a power junkie and that's why I want the 800. 3 of my buddies have 700's and they're tough! It does't matter what engine you choose, just as long as you get a Polaris!

I own an 05 (newer style) and about my only gripe is I wish that the front suspension was a little firmer. There's no adjustment neither. I hear most big bores all share this problem so it doesn't really matter. Nothing new springs won't fix. I've had mine about 14 problem free months. It is more than fast enough for this size of a machine IMO. I can bring the front end up easily if there's good traction to be had. Brian

Depends on what you are going to be using the atv for. If you want a machine for working, hunting, or the most comfortable ride, go with the Sportsman. If you want an atv for sporty, fun riding, then go with the Grizzly. I've enjoyed riding my Dad's 800 for nearly a year now, but I chose to buy a Grizzly 700 because I will be doing more recreational riding. They may be similar in size, but the Grizzly and the Sportsman are two VERY different machines. It all depends on what you'll be using it for.
