Default Solution for clogging rads.

Here is just a quick simple solution I have created to keep my rad from clogging. I have had it out on two very muddy complicated rides and it stays cool now. All it took was about 10 feet of 3/4 inch rad hose a $20 roof vent from home depot and about an afternoons worth of work.

The fan fits nicely underneath the rad exactly how it is mounted stock. I cut a large hole in the bottom of the compartment to allow for the fan and a place for the air to escape. In fact now with the rad there during the cold winter runs I can keep a nice hot can of soup. lol

Very good idea, but I like my cooler in the front to be COOL LOL and I built a trailside pressure washer so could play in the mud and not worry.

CORMACS Where are you from? I saw one of your pics was from Mattawa

Default Solution for clogging rads.

I'm from Ottawa, but I generally ride up in Johnstown. I built a trailwasher myself. A very good trail washer with two RV style water pumps that has tons of pressure. It blasts through the rad no problem. But the riding I do I can't be stopping every 20 minutes to clean it out. We usually dunk into a very deep very thick mudhole every 15 minutes and spend upwards of 10 minutes in each hole. Not only that I find because the trail washer just can't get certain areas, like the corners and the center where the rad fan sits it doesn't take long for it to start overheating. I still have my back compatment for a cooler. I find there is no good way to clean your rad other then to take it right out and clean each row individually. I've tried alot of ideas but I just gave up and decided to make something that will solve the idea not bandaid it.

Default Solution for clogging rads.

Cormac,

I seen the same from Cordachine, do you guys know each other?
Yea that is cool! (No pun intended), LOL. I may consider doing thing
design too.. Any performance issues with how its mounted (side-ways and
several inches higher)?

Regards,

R'

no it doesn't affect performance at all. The only reason rads are mounted verticle is for air flow. But since there is a scoop that funnels the air and shoots it down, it being horizontal has no affect.
