Default 99 SP 500 driving me nuts.....

While riding last week, my machine started spitting and sputtering with the occassional backfire. I stopped to try to figure out what was going on. I noticed that the red and green lights were both lit, and that if I held the override button in, everything worked normal. Now, it has happened again. I can't figure out why the machine all of a sudden started running like this, and why the gear lights are lit, even though the machine was in H. Any help is greatly appreciated.....

Look for a broken or shorted wire. My buddy's bike did this a couple of weeks ago and his hot light and all other lights came on. He found a broken wire.

Would you mind asking what wire he found broken? This would provide me with an excellent place to start. Thanks for the reply!

hey man, mine did this and this is the fix. on the right side of the wheeler's engine, there is a plastic plug with i think 4 or 5 wires attached. that plug there is causing you problems( or at least it was on mine) it is a cheap little plastic deal that sometimes allows water in it and will cause your wheeler to think it is in override mode. try this before replacing it:
unlpug it and let it air dry for several hours, let the plug hand in a downward position to wick any moisture out. then plug back in and see if that helps. if so, you need to try and seal that plug someway, maybe a small amound of clear silicone around the outer edge. if that doesn't work, then you may need to have it replaced. good luck

polarisbear500, might you be able to clue me in as to where exactly this plug is. I'm going to claim that I've looked and looked, and as of yet I haven't found it. Thanks in advance....
