Hi, new member here. I just purchased a new 2007 Sportsman 800 X2 Deluxe about 10 days ago. I hauled it up to my hunting land last week and put about 4 hours on it. Runs great, plenty of power but a lot of heat when going slow.
I saw some plastic dripping so I lifted the seat to check it out. Both of the rubber grommets that snap the seat on to the posts had torn and were inside the plastic posts on the seat. The right seat post had melted where it rested on the hot frame without the rubber to insulate it.
I took the seat into the dealer this morning. They pulled another seat off of a new one to give to me. One grommet was missing and the other was torn. They pulled another seat and it was good so they gave that one to me. They said there must be some problems with the rubber and they were going to check the rest of their inventory.

As far as I could tell, the reason the right seat post melted is because without the grommet it rested directly on the frame. The frame at that spot was too hot to touch. The whole post didn't melt, just the bottom where it contacted the frame. Much like it would if you touched it to any very hot surface. It didn't collapse, the bottom was deformed and the hole was distorted. The grommet center minus its outer edges was inside the seat post.
The left hand grommet was also inside the seatpost and when they removed it with a long nose pliers, it appeared to be rotted. Left side seatpost didn't melt of course.
The point of my post was not so much about melting as it was about defective rubber grommets. My fenders and the rest of the plastic near the exhaust is fine. Dealer said if anything else melts to be sure and bring it in for replacement before the warranty expires.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet in this thread BUT you may want to consider some
of the fixes others have done with heat issues. There is too many threads in this forum to
count. Stendori is the man and can point ya in the right directions. Some exhaust thermal
wraps, heat rated ceramic coating etc etc. Just repeated what others have done or used, again
I am not the expert here, just being thought provoking and its nice to hear a good dealer
willing to replace your melting/defective parts, others in this forum have posted that
many dealers don't want to deal with it.
