My parents bought a Sportsman 500 (unknown year, maybe 96-98) a few years ago. THey used it for some land work. Well they sold the land and now they dont want it anymore. They actually told me they were going to GIVE it away with the trailer!! So Im selling it for them, but I have a couple of questions (none of us are really knowledgeable on ATVs)
1. Is there a VIN-type code on the bike to see exactly what year model it is? All I know is its a Sportsman 500 4x4
2. What would be a reasonable asking price? I would assume $500 bare minimum with trailer. Cosmetically its not the best (1 or 2 broken body pieces), brakes need work (hard to stop going down steep hills), speedo does not work, busted headlight. It's more of a woods/work/hunting ATV, but still a decent running powerful 4x4. Ill try to get if that would help. Price would include a trailer for it as well.
Thanks for all your help. Parents are tight on money, and I dont want to see them just give this thing away if they can get a little bit for it. Thanks!!

the vin nuber should be on the lower left frame rail i believe, so if your looking at the motor from the left id it will be on the closest frame rail to you on the bottom. im not really sure how much you should ask, but a grand would probably be good, even 1300 for a starting price. with a trailer and all it should be worth about that depending on how bad the rough spots are. I hope this helps and Im right.... haha
