POLARIS SCRAMBLER 500 carb problem maybe??
#1
At the end of the 2006 summer, I poured HEET fuel treatment in my tank for the winter. I left it in storage for the winter. I get it out this year to start it up, and it wont start. I finally narrowed it down to the float needed in the carb was stuck closed. I took it apart and cleaned it. Put it back together, and it ran just fine. A month later, the same thing happen again. I put it back together and i think i might have put it in crooked because the float stuck open this time and fuel poured out the overflow hose. So i fixed that, but I'm thinkin that I might have bent the float level, because now when I get up to top speed the motor cuts way back and sounds funny and has almost no power at all even if you let off the throttle and get back in it. You have to come to a complete stop and take off again before the engine returns to have any real power. My guess is the float level is wrong, but i have no idea. PLEASE HELP!! if anyone knows what the float level is supposed to be, please let me know, ALSO, WHERE do you measure at when you are resetting the float level??
thanks

I would imagine if the carb is gummed up enough for the float to stick, I would imagine that the rest of the carb is probably gummed up as well. Try cleaning it completly and I wouldn't use that type of fuel stabilizer if you are having that much trouble. Personally I just ride all year round so I don't need fuel stabilizer.

what do you suggest using to clean it. should i soak the whole thing in some kind of solution??
Where can i find what the factory setting is on the float level?

Float levels generally parallel with the base of the carb with the carb upside down. For cleaning any carb and choke cleaner will work. Completely disassemble, spray down, used compressed air if possible. Make sure the jets are clear. By the way, I don't think heet is a storage agent. Use Stabil, or Sea-foam. How much Heet did you put in? Oh yea make sure the tank is venting properly also. Doc

I used the whole bottle of heet and it was good for 25 gallons i think, so it was pretty strong. I think I might just take it to the shop and have them fix it, the guy told me it would be about $200 to put it on a machine to diagnos the problem, take the carb off and completly rebuild it and then tune it right. so i will probably just do that. I'm tired of messing with it and I wanna ride it.
