My buddies machine acts up and don't know what to try next. It starts and idles fine. Somedays you hit the gas and you can go full board. Other days it only gets to 30MPH. Sometimes when it is going full board and we have to back up or turn around it will act up and not get over 30MPH. We rebuilt the carb and everything is fine there. Can't smell gas. Is that a chance the clutches are the problems?

I should have stated after we back up and go forward again it acts up. Not that it acts up in reverse. If it comes and goes what are the chances it is the cam? I don't know anything but if it was the cam wouldn't it be a constant bog instead of intermittent? Thanks for your reply.

My buddies 96 500 had a similar problem. It would run good some days and others it would run like crap and cut out and bog down. Ended up being the fuel pump had a hole in the diaphram. Put a new one on it and good as new.
P.S. It has over 13,000 miles now and he just bought another one. He is a true believer in polaris 500s.
