Rickeyparker said it right. I don't know him other than the posts he makes. His machines do what he likes them to do. Bigger tires, light clutch works great for his needs, but I'll bet he'd be the first to tell you that you have to give something up to get something else. Don't think for a moment that you can do the same to your machine and keep the lowspeed clutch engagement and bottom end, off idle power and have it pull like gangbusters in mid range and top end. A lot of quaders would like this but the laws of physics aren't on their side.

Yep Mongrol your right, for every give there is a take, if i need run backroads all day long i want to tune it lean then if im gonna run in the sand and mud at slow speeds then i tune it rich, just depends on what you want, my setup works great for us.

yes i have the mikuni bst 34 carb on my 500 scrambler with the 500 sportsman engine in it and there is a adjustment right in front of teh boal were it goes to the engine intake. in teh centerthing that sticks out you will need a narrow screwdriver and might have to spin the carb or take it alltheway out to adjust idk i just found mine a few days ago it makes a big difference. mine wass 4 turns out and i moved it in to 2 and 5/8 were the book sais for the 500 sportsman</end quote></div>

I can't see a screw anywhere, I guess I'll have to take it out and have a look.
What book did you find the specs for that screw? My user's manual does not have it.

Yea i looked today you cant adjust it on teh bike. and i hate that everything in the front has to be taken off or unbolted to take the carb off. its in a lil tube thing so you will need a narrow screwdriver. and i have teh service manual and it sais to have the screw out 2 and 5/8 turn for a 500 idn it might be the same for teh 700 might not.

I talked to the dealer about the carb and he told me to drill the factory plug out from the bottom of the carb to get at the air mixture screw and to turn it out 1/2 turn and I should see increased performance with the new pipes.
My screw is on the bottom in front of the idle.
It's #31 on the detail drawing:

I think I'll give it a try in the new year when I have some extra time.
Have a Happy Holidays everyone, Merry Christmas!
