Hair dryer, pull real slow.
If any left over adhesive is still there, use kerosene and a rag.

Quad 4- That goo gone stuff and a razor blade made mine just come right off. You let the goo gone do it's thing for a few minutes and then scrap. By the way, I froze doing this, because my garage was below 40 degrees this weekend. It's been freezing here for weeks now.

I have a 98 Sportsman 500. Is the hair dryer the best way to remove the old decals or is there a better way? The hair dryer is taking a very long time read (Hours)

I used a heat gun at work that would get hotter, but for a 15 year old decal they do get brittle and takes awhile.Just take your time. I always used Goof Off or even rubbing alcohol to remove any residue from the plastic. If you install new decals use a spray bottle with soapy water, wet the area and decal then apply.A little plastic squeegee or sponge works good to remove any air bubbles.Let it dry a while and slowly peel the backing paper off.

Default Decal removal, thanks

Thank you all for the advice. I suppose this will have to be a test of my patience if I am hearing you guys correctly. Where can I find new decals for my Sportsman 500, 98 model?
Thanks again,
Herb

Don't show to be available at several online parts house I've checked, but still show up on the Polaris Parts breakdown. These may be a dealer item only since its 15 years old or decals might be NLA ? Browse There are after market decals, but you'd have to do a little searching unless someone on the forum has a source.

Heat gun worked great, but mine was new, so that made it easy.
