Thats a lot of oil. Either its leaking and you'll see evidence of it on the garage floor or on the engine. Or its getting burned. If its leaking, definitely need to replace a seal or gasket thats bad. If its burning, the most common causes of that are worn rings or worn valve seals.
If you're bike is burning that much oil, there should be evidence of it on the spark plugs. A ring job is a fairly involved job, best to get a service manual before you tear into it.

well first things first, I do have a few ounces of oil in the air box! On the trails -last 2 have been winter rides so I was turning about 5500rpm all day is the oil just "blow by'? I know that Can Am owners are told that a certain amount of oil use when running high rpm is normal? Motor runs fine/ but it never lost oil before.. but it still runs!

I get oil in the airbox in my Hawkeye when it is under hard load for a while. At full throttle (extended hard load) a low pressure area is created in the airbox and allows any oil that is thrown around the engine to evacuate to the airbox. Sometimes it will do that if it is over full. The synthetic oil seems to expand a lot more than normal oil so if you top it up cold, it will be way over full hot.
Trial and error.

I like that explaination over the rebuild! I am pretty mechanical, but not convinced the motor is going away. I will run a compression check hopefully this weekend. Thanx p.s I just talked to my buddy w/800 on the same ride his oil was down also. Has anyone heard the rumor that Polaris is switching to 0-50 synth oil?
