500 EFI or 800 EFI SPORTSMAN

My 500 has all the power I need and the fuel economy is quite good. The 800 is so quick it's scary and really sucks the gas. On a recent club ride, I got about 23 mpg and the 800 got 8 mpg, although this evening he said he got 12 the other day. My .02.

you guys are all talking about one thing and that is gas milage. it doesnt take a rock science to figure that the 800 vs. the 500 is night and day differnce. w/ out meaning to ignorant, if you can aford to buy an almost $9,000 toy then your not worring about gas. it boils down to between the 2 bikes its just the engine that is the main differnce. you get all pretty same features on both bikes. if gas price is a big isue then its a no brainer on what your choice should be. imo.

This is one of the few times I disagree with you Stendori.
A lot of the 6.4 Ford boys are whining like 2 your olds because of the cost of fuel. And they have 60K trucks!!!
Fuel cost has doubled in just a few years!!! Gas, is almost $4.00 a gallon now. In a few years it might double to $8.00 a gallon.
When this happens, you have to ask yourself do I need that extra 300cc's? Only you can answer that question.

well i ll put it another way. if we can aford these kind of toys(which we all are fortunate to have) we need to pay the price no matter what it is. right now gas is $3.36 for 87 octane so i know what you mean. i drive my wifes car instead of my truck to save money. i know guys(i used to be one) that spends big money on sleds that got 8 to 10 mpg because of big bore. but i wouldnt let it set becaus eof the price of fuel. i would just go less. as far as gas in the future, theres not a hell of alot we can do about it but we are getting raped right now on gas and heating oil @$3,69/gallon.

I think if I were you I would go for the 500. Most people won't tap into the power of the 800 unless they are power hogs like me Most of my friends here have 400's or 500's they use to hunt, fish, trail ride, plow snow. I have never heard any of them complain about a lack of power. If it is comfortable and has enough power, buy the 500. I don't give the price of gas any thought, but it would be nice to go longer on a tank of gas without having to pack a can with you. That's why my wife has the sp700x2. It packs the beer cooler and the fuel! Doesn't get much better than that! Have fun with your new toy! BTW, before they try to talk you into aftermarket accessories, ie a winch, do your homework! Especially since Warn just put out some cool new winches with synthetic rope! Dealers - they're always in our pockets!
