i need to buy a new primary clutch for a 1999 sportsman 500.mine has a step in it from slipping and is creeping pretty bad.so instead of putting time into this one.im going to get a new one.i dont want to buy a used one from ebay.i was wondering if anybody knew where to get a oem clutch for a cheeper then oem price.

Dont know where else to buy a new clutch but if you will buy one of the new roller clutches found on the new machines you will notice a big difference, they take off better and grip the belt better.

 

what models will fit a 99 sportsman 500?

 

The dealer can tell you but I believe you'll want the one off a new 500, cause its the only one with the right shaft size and taper, the 7 and 800's are diffferent.

Kerbbirds, this is only speculation, but I would guess that the only (new style) roller clutch that may have a chance of fitting the 500 would be the '08 SP 400 HO clutch that has the 455cc engine...this is the same "basic" Fugi engine as the newer Sp 500s...now if they are the same layout as the older 500s is a good question!
