Problem fixed but yet another
i finally got my 500 running after about 8 months of sitting around. the bobbins on the stator were bad so i replaced them. also thank you to everyone who has helped me out so far. i could not have done it without you guys.
anyways it runs now but is running real rough. it runs at high rpms okay but is real rough at low rpms and won't idle. also it seems to me that it might be running hot too. like i said it has been sitting for about 8 months. does the carb maybe need cleaned? any suggestions?

Yes I would probably remove and clean that carb. Before I remove the thing, I would find the scew on the bottom of the bowl and let it drain a little. I drain mine once and a while and I usually do it while its running to see if it sounds any differant. You also could take the breather off and spray some carb cleaner in there while it is running to see if the idle gets any better and if it does then you know that it is the carb. Looking at the year model it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to adjust the valves if you haven't already. Its an easy job and you can do a google on how to do it, thats how I learned to do mine.
P.S. Do any of you guys use STP in the gas? I do. I think that can help keep things clean!
