Default Starter bug....

Hey guys I'm having trouble with my starter. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem...2000 Sportsman 500 RSE 4x4, as I engage starter I can hear it spin but not engaging with the fly wheel. I have to pull start it every time! The starter bug is getting on my last nerve and want to get it fixed. Oh I have taken starter off and cleaned, but still is acting rebellious! Any Ideas or suggestions would be appreciated!

The solenoid isn't engaging. I don't know how to repair it either.

The solenoid is actually ok. Replace the starter bendix.

one of ours did this also. we removed side pull rope cover and removed bendix and cleaned it and lubed it and put it back in and it has worked fine for a year or so now

Well I have taken the Bendix out cleaned it and put it back together...It still wont pop out like its supposed to. I think its just worn out. I have a new one on the way...Hopefully this will cure my head aches!

mine would spin but not engage, I did all the same stuff but what fixed it was tightening the recoil housing bolts pretty tight. I have a bad bushing in the crankcase side of the starter bendix that I need to replace sometime but for some reason this has temporarily fixed it. just a thought
