Anyone thinking of getting out of ATVs

I think my problem goes to what Old Polaris Tech was saying.I have been working on too many and not taking the time to enjoy mine. This has been a bad yr for the local trails most have been under water twice now for weeks at a time.Come Aug and Sept things should settle down.

We went for a short ride today. About 26 miles or so. We'll be up in Vermont using the quads this week to haul out wood for the woodstove. I don't think I'd give up the quads unless I was physically unable to ride anymore.

Yep Ftwflh some times ya just got to step back and chill. If I was in your shoes I'd grab a rack of brew, do the hang & tinker on your flh and then go riding while thinking ftw. It works for me. Just think we could all be like tipo176 and be paying $10.19 - WTF ! could you imagine that WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love driving my Chevy Duramax too......(but i DID work for Cummins for 36 years!!)
back on topic: I have severe COPD and I depend on my ATV to get me back and forth to the old barn and for doing "chores" around here...I would probably be money ahead to buy one of the mini-4 wheel drive rigs ...like a Samurai,Geo,Sidekick,etc--cheap,easy insurance, street legal....and then I could avoid some of the dust and pollen the ATV kicks up too.If i did go that route it wouldn't be a decision based entirely on finances but more on practical grounds.......

Man what an interesting thread. My wife and I are planning to sell her SP450 (06) not so much
cuz of the astronomical GAS prices (doesn't help) but she just doesn't ride it and we are hurting
for some money, need to clear some debt and get ahold of our finances (yes gas is a factor but
on the other end, work weeks etc.) its just all adding up, I hear ya ftwflh.
To agree with other posters though, I can't GIVE it up. I may just take the STENDORI approach
let them sit for abit and ride when I can and have the funds, but when I do ride its like a nice
vacation day or two, go hog wild (wait a min. shouldn't that be WILD HOGS? ,LOL) and get
the most of my ride day. Yea, I fall in the same boat as a few on here, have to haul my wheelers
about 2hrs aways cuz I can't ride them from my house, ooohh wouldn't that be GREAT! To those
that can, what a nice priviledge to have, some day, some day!
Cheers,

I ride right from my driveway most of the time. I've cut back on riding due to the cost of gas, but giving it up altogether has never crossed my mind.
I might do like I did with my car though, and trade it for a more fuel efficient one. If Honda makes the right changes to the Rincon for 2009, I might switch back. I can't get more than 16 mpg with my 800.

thats what i got w/ my 800 as well sheepdog. but i knew buying my 800, say vs. a little 250 or 300 or what ever i wouldnt enjoy it as much. i hate to say it but no matter what you have it will cost you and if we cant afford the gas for it we shouldnt either have them or just do cut back on the riding time. i figure the money i save in driving my little sh@t box car in the summer vs my new truck in gas i can use a little of that money to play with. face it guys i think the good ole goverment is going to kep letting us get screwed on HIGH GAS/OIL prices so they can keep getting kick backs or what ever since we all pay there salary and there riding around gas they dont have to worry about the price. imo.
