You got to ask your self why . I read allot on these forms about EFI problems and besides the better starting when cold and no need to re jet I myself don't see the benefits . Who needs a bike full of sensors ( Manifold Absolute Pressure , Intake Air , Idle Air Control , Crankshaft Position , Throttle Position Sensor ) not to mention a dam Electronic Control Unit . All things that have the potential to leave you in the bush plus more money your have to spend when one screws up . I'll stick with the good old Carb Polaris can keep there sensors in a box I don't want them , what good are they.

EFI also gives you better gas mileage and more horsepower.</end quote></div>
Ya but what a couple miles a gallon and 2 or 3 horsepower big deal , I'll get the extra few dollars back when I don't have to replace defective sensor plus the piece of mind when I'm in the bush of having a hell of allot less to go wrong .
Example Below
I've been trying for quite a while to get my wife to ride with me, Yesterday I got my wish. I was able to borrow a friends grizzly so I could put her on my sportsman 500. We had ridden about 5 miles or so and stopped for a drink. When we got ready to head out again, my sportsman would not start back up. Prior to that it seemed to be running just fine before, it has a full tank, and the air filter is pretty clean only (250 miles total on the machine) It turns over just fine and I can hear the fuel pump prime the system. I did notice some fuel and air bubbling in the vent tube. I don't smell any gas and I think I have noticed that before. After letting it sit for about 10-15 minutes and few more tries, it started up but died after about 20-30 seconds. I believe I had the gas cap off and the air box opened. I could not get it to fire up again and towed it back. I was able to get it to start again after it was loaded on the trailer. When running it seemed to run fine again with no sputtering or anything. I gassed it a few times and then it just acted like it ran out of gas and I have not been able to start it again. I'm kind of at a loss here. I don't think the plug is fouled and I think the fuel filter is fine, its only had 5-6 tanks through it give or take. Anyone have a clue what I should look for, I'm1 guessing it may need to go to the dealer since its EFI.... thanks for any advice
Turned out to be the crank sensor. hurt the wallet, but all is well now. READY TO RIDE!

EFI is the way of the future. Most of the time they have proven to be very reliable.
If you do not change elevation much then the carb models perform just fine.
However if you run a change of elevation of more than 4000 feet then the EFI is much better.

I agree with you Spdecat! I hope Polaris keeps carbs in there lineup. Much less to go wrong, much cheaper to operate in the long run. If my machine starts I know it will stay running with a carb. You can catch problems with a carb before it gets so bad that it wont run at all. An EFI can just kill in the middle on no mans land. When they get the efi to work like a vehicle then it is worth looking into. but for now there are far too many issues with efi. I dont want to trailer a machine for 4 hours and then notice the efi has an issue when you get there and it didnt when you loaded it. Carb for me!

I wont even run a champion in my lawn mower as a matter of fact my john deere with a kohler motor had an ngk in it already. What got me hooked is i had a boat motor once that i had put champs in. It fouled the plug out in the middle of the lake and i paddled so i put another champ in got out in the lake and what do you know fouled again and paddled again. So i go and get ngks and put in it never had to paddle again.

Just my 2 cents worth: I was happy with just carbs and points and condensers!!!</end quote></div>
Since you work on Polaris ATVS all the time what conclusion can you give us regarding EFI reliability vs Carb . Do you think that the addition of EFI has added reliability to our machines or is it a step back wards ? I don't see besides the big two ( cold starting - I pull out the choke ) and the not having to re-jet ( how many are changing altitudes all the time that much ) . EFI also puts the non- serviceable fuel pump and fuel filter in the tank unlike the carb , and what it won't start or run with a dead battery . So with your knowledge on repairs , cost , and reliability which one is better ?? When I'm in the bush I want to know my bike will start , Which machine would you count ON ???
As I posted before
