Personally I've had more go wrong with carbs than I ever have EFI.
It's proven reliable technology and far more efficient than overly complex mechanical carburetors.</end quote></div>
I have owned more Sportsmans over the years than I care to admit. Many carb, many EFI.
I have had a couple problems with each. The carb was a simple idle adjustment. My first 500 EFI had a stalling problem which couldn't be fixed so I sold the ATV. My 700EFI Sportsmans had no EFI prob's.(my first had the water pump leak...do you guys remember 2002?LOL!)
Anyways, I like EFI. It's just damn GREAT to turn the key and GO! Winter cold? No Problem!
Also, I do see a SLIGHT increase in MPG as well.

All the ATV's or motorcycles I've ever owned had carbs...and they were really reliable. However...I'm all for technology...and another vote for EFI. If EFI works on my truck to get me to and from the trail, then it should be good enough for my next ATV.

Just my 2 cents worth: I was happy with just carbs and points and condensers!!!</end quote></div>
Since you work on Polaris ATVS all the time what conclusion can you give us regarding EFI reliability vs Carb . Do you think that the addition of EFI has added reliability to our machines or is it a step back wards ? I don't see besides the big two ( cold starting - I pull out the choke ) and the not having to re-jet ( how many are changing altitudes all the time that much ) . EFI also puts the non- serviceable fuel pump and fuel filter in the tank unlike the carb , and what it won't start or run with a dead battery . So with your knowledge on repairs , cost , and reliability which one is better ?? When I'm in the bush I want to know my bike will start , Which machine would you count ON ???
As I posted before
Do you really need a bike full of sensors ( Manifold Absolute Pressure , Intake Air , Idle Air Control , Crankshaft Position , Throttle Position Sensor ) not to mention a dam Electronic Control Unit . All things that have the potential to leave you in the bush plus more money your have to spend when one screws up . I'll stick with the good old Carb Polaris can keep there sensors in a box I don't want them , what good are they.</end quote></div>
EFi takes you out from under the shade tree just like it does for autos,NOT much you can service anymore but fluids, plugs, etc,BUT its not what I OR YOU prefer,ITS what its coming down to because of tighter restrictions, tree huggers, etc.
I would just like to stop the world sometimes and Just get off,but it keeps on spinning!! Just got through reading an article about HYBRID SCOOTERS today of all things!! YES I prefer carbs for ease of maintenance and user friendly, but EFI is here to stay whether I like it or not. If I cant adapt I just need to get out of the way, just like the poor old dinosaurs had to do!

The 2005 gets water pump leaks yet too. Was 70$ in 02 a couple months ago was 140.
The EFI sure kicks over quick compared to the carb even when getting ready to go out & plow a few inches.

Another vote for EFI. Nothing wrong with a carb but the benefits of EFI outweigh the carb IMO. Actually EFI is a simple system, most complex part it the ECU, other than that it consist of fuel line, fuel pump and fuel injectors. Of course the ECU uses a few other sensors aw well. Now I will agree that EFI is more likely to leave you stranded if it has a problem. But fortunately I have never had a total failure with EFI, the system is pretty dang reliable. IMO alot of guys who get codes thrown have gotten sensor connectors wet and blame it on "crappy EFI". I have had mine throw several codes after pressure washing. Dry the connector, reset ECU, done
Thanks some great answers , I do fiqure that someday it will be all EFI and I'll have one if I want to own a new machine . My concern is reliability and when I read that EFI is more likely to leave you stranded it scares me . I ride 100% of the time by myself nearly 2500 miles so far this year alone so reliability is tops on my list .
Ok I guess this got way off topic huh? lol</end quote></div>

Didn't know they still had problems. BTW, in '02 they were free! (Warranty!LOL!)
