I just bought a '01 Trailblazer tonight. Overall, a good machine, fresh rebuild (I got the reciepts), piped, jetted. I went and checked it out tonight and was made aware that the starter needed replaced. O.K. no problem. It has the pull start which we used to start the machine. The owner pulled the rope once and it fired right up. Only prob. the rope broke. I bought the machine pretty cheap because of this. I rode it, It ran great, sounds great, accelerates great, pretty tight all around so needless to say, I liked it and made an offer, brought it home. Now it's time to go to work. I want to first pull the starter and rebuild it. Can someone advise me on the best way to go about doing this. I've looked at where the starter is on the machine and it doesn't look easy to get to at all so thought I might get some advice here. The pull rope should'nt give me any problem, looks easy enough to get to and change the rope but i'd like to have the elec. start working as it should first, then I'll do the rope. My first quad, I'm ready to ride, hope to have it going tomorrow with all little help from this forum. Much appreciation in advance for your replies. Looking forward to maybe meeting up with some of you in the Ohio area.

 

Dont know much about this but my suggestion would be to get a service manual before starting any work. Also while your taking it apart take detailed pictures so you put it together exactly as it came off

yea i always use pictures whenever im not compeltely confident taht i can put it together. Also, Ebay is a great way to find manuals

 

its not hard to pull the starter. first take the flywheel cover off. that will reveal two bolts that hold the starter on the front. take those out. there also two bolts on the back of the starter. those are gonna be a pain to get at. one isnt all that bad the other one is a 1/8th of a turn each time. (i generally dont put these back. up to you) after you get all the bolts out take off the skid plate and the starter will slip right through a hole underneath it. its a easy rebuild too. not much in there and the brushes are on a permanent plate

Like said by eggenz7 but to make it super easy get a clutch puller (a tool you will use more than you think) and pull the clutches and cover off and you will save time and frustration.Also invest in A manual look on ebay 2000-2003 are basicly the same.
