What is the next richer jet after 152.5?

Yes, more air added to the same amount of fuel = a lean mixture. You should try for a cream in coffee color to a semi-dark tan. Black is not good. Have you checked your jet to see what number it is?
I did not do any air box mods yet. But my thought is this: two pieces of 3/4 garden hose with female ends, one to reach the middle and one to reach the back end. Epoxy a male fitting into a drilled hole. Make your attachments and cut to length.
Surely you must have a retired piece of hose and <$10.00 for fittings. Or use heater hose, thicker walls. Use as many hoses as you want. Make that air box look like an octopus.
The green spring is good, it comes in at a higher rpm which give me more throttle control a lower speeds. I did not try the white as they are very close.

Included in your paperwork with the ATV should be a build sheet/addendum to the owners manual which should tell you which jet was installed at the time of manufacture.
There was a service bulletin awhile back that said to put in a 157.5 if the standard jet was too lean. My Magnum came with a 165 jet (because it has a larger air intake)
Maybe we can get ChopperBill to post all of the available jet sizes?
If you drill standard sized holes and the modifcation doesn't work you can buy rubber plugs at your local Tru-value hardware store. I would check their inventory before beginning any modifications.

Click here and you will be directed to Polaris' Trail tip section which lists Parts Manuals (in pdf form) which you can download. This will list the jet size and is also handy when you take things apart.
I downloaded one for my TrailBlazer then printed it, double side copied it and put it in a loose leaf binder in plastic sheet protectors (so you don't grease it up when using).

I have that "pdf" but under carburetor it only shows what is standard. Plus this parts list is for the 2000 and for the right carb you need to look at the scrambler 2000 parts list. They haven't updated for the '01 500ho.
If there is a specific page for the jet sizes, please let me know...
