Polaris Transmission interchange
#1
My father in law just traded for a 97 250 trail boss that looks good and runs great, but the tranny was locked up like a rock, it appears that the drain plug fell out some time ago. Anyway, he wants me to put a tranny in it and I'm having a rough time finding a used one that will fit it. Does anyone have a list of what Polaris trannys interchage?
Thanks

try just rebuilding the on eyou have.. theres is not much in there. 2 shafts with a few gears on them, a chain and a few bearings. i bet the bearings just need to be replaced. i would replace the chain while your in there because without oil they stretch fast and then slip. its a non complicated job on those trannys tho

I was originally planning to rebuild it, but when I got it apart, I found that the needle bearing inside the mainshaft gears fell apart and locked the gears to the shaft (hence the locked tranny), after I got the gears freed up, I discovered that the bearing had eaten the inner race (the shaft itself) and I wouldn't trust it to run anymore.

What kind of shape is the output shaft in? I have a trans that needs an output shaft at minimum. Maybe with the two we could get one working and you could put it in your bike. Sent you a pm
