switching from 2wd to turf mode while in H gear
I just had my 800x2 tranny replaced under ext. warranty (Went out w/ only 180mi + 24hr), I just got it back tonight.
With the engine idleing and machine in High gear, when I flip the switch from 2wd to turf there is a click sound that ticks once from the rearend and the headlights dim and stay dimmed.
Is this normal??
It never did this before my tranny was replaced.
If it is supposed to do this and mine never did.
I wonder if this was a sign of where the tranny problem originated.

Engaging Turf mode will give a distinctive "Click" - so this is quite normal
As to the lights dimming - I have always engaged Turf Mode during the day in bright sunlight so I have never noted whether or not the lights dim.
Does anybody know exactly how this works? If you are engaging a coil or selenoid then I would suspect a temporary dimming of the lights when the coil engages to be normal.

As I said the "click" is normal - in fact this is a good check the Turf mode is engaging. HeftyLefty may be thinking you have a ground in this circuit and suggesting you check the wiring.
When I get a chance this weekend I will see if I note any "dimming" when I engage turf mode. If anybody had an ampmeter handy they could check what added load engaging turf mode has on the electrical system
How much dimming is noted? A slight quick dimming - or does it seem to pull the system down pretty hard? If anything - it should be slight and very quick (again, if anything).
DISTINCTIVE CLICK IS NORMAL ENGAGING TURF MODE

Sounds like the others are right. The clicking is fine....lets you know everything is working properly, it is a solenoid that is clicking. As for the lights.....do they dim temporarily? Or do they stay dimmed? Check your battery voltage and make sure your battery is fully charged and everything there is good.
Suprisingly, batteries can cause many problems with electronic things.......

5 J's Thanks for your help.
I also went out to the garage to doublecheck what I was describing to you. I just noticed the changes in my machine tonight when I got my ATV back from its major repair. I had said previously that the lights dimmed and stayed dim. Now that its in the garage w/lights on and the closed garage door, I see that they are only dimming for a couple of seconds and then returning to full bright. Like you said you didnt notice this in normal daylight conditions, probobally not using turf mode at night. I may not have noticed if the lights dimmed before, but I know my ATV never made the click noise when switching.
I wonder if this could have been the cause of my premature trans. replacement?
