I put a pair of EPI HD front springs on my 500 HO ATP to counteract the sag from the BG and winch. They worked very well, raised the ride height back to stock or a bit above and drastically improved the handling. No more bottoming out or front end dive under braking. Steering effort improved and the teering became more positive. I didn't notice any difference in ride quality. I'll put some on the 800 when I get around to it.

Polaris did not publish the rate for that spring but it is a straight rate spring. It was later substituted by a progressive rate spring #7042312. That spring has a rate of 64-113. That was the exact spring I had on my 04 500 and it sagged terribly. I replaced it with the EPI WE320000. They do not show this spring for the 500 but it fits. They show it for the 600 and 700 but there is not difference in the hubstrut and strut between the 500, 600 & 700. The spring that EPI lists for the 03/04 500 is a straight rate spring. That is the reason why I went with the WE320000 because it is a progressive rate spring. At slow speed it is slightly stiffer than stock but once you start pushing it you will be very pleased. It handles the rough stuff better than stock and the harder you push it the more noticeable the improvement. It compeltely restored my ground clearance and removed all of this / \. I also have an 08 Grizzly and my Polaris with the EPI spring still rides much smoother than the Grizzly. The EPI spring will not sag over time like the stock.

This is from Wolfff GunSprings, but a spring is a spring. It explains progressive rate springs which are also called variable rate springs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. What is the difference between conventional and variable recoil springs?

The difference is both physical and operational. With a conventional spring, all the coils are spaced equally apart, except for the closed ends. In a variable recoil spring the space varies between coils with less space between coils at one end and more space between coils at the other end.

The way the 2 springs store energy is also different. For example if a conventional recoil spring is compressed 1/2", it might store 1 pound of energy. For every additional 1/2" this spring is compressed it would then store 1 additional pound of energy. When a variable recoil spring is compressed 1/2", it might store 1/4 pound of energy. The next half inch of compression might store 1/2 pound, the next half inch might store 3/4 pound and so on.

In other words, a conventional spring stores energy on a straight line and a variable spring stores energy on a curve. If both springs are rated at 16 pounds, they will both store 16 pounds when compressed to the same working length, but the way they get to 16 pounds is different.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That sounds better than when I said they start out soft then get stiffer. OMG. That almost sounded pornographic. LOL

EPI has them at $59.00 each. When I visited Polaris
web site I can't tell if I can get their set for $59 or
is their price each? Based on this thread if I am going
to pay as much for Polaris I will pursue EPI since it has
a higher rating and many testimonals approve their
products.

Anyone know where I can get the EPIs cheaper than
the site?

Regards,

Minutes a go I ordered a set of the Polaris HD from my dealer for $49.99 (set). They are part number 2876153.

Everywhere I checked had the EPI for around $60 EACH.

Hey, I just purchased them too from my dealer. They gave
me a price quote for $42.00 with their discount. I also added
the Lock&Ride rear cargo box "Backrest". I was back and forth
on that one but a few friends that have them encouraged me
to get it as its nice for long trails. Planning an early spring
Hatfield and McCoy trip, already booked, wheew heeew!

I may need a little guidence if I run into a snag when I put
these things on, I'll keep ya posted, thanks for all the great
info. BTW, I would of like to have the EPI, but I wasn't ready
at this time to pay double the cost for them, hopefully this helps
enough with my plow and sag issues.

Regards,

R'

Mine should be in on Monday - but I won't be able to install until next weekend at the earliest. I chose the Polaris based on no negaive reviews and cost.
