Oil change price?
#11
My dealer charged me $72.25 for my first oil change. Kind of blew me away also. I was willing as my atv was in for a major warranty repair at the time. After reading the fine print in my ext. warranty paper work I was more than willing to have the dealer do the documented maintenance work. Polaris ext warranty coverage states "In order to keep this contract in force you must maintain this vehicle in accordance with polaris maintenance requirements,
We will require you to prove you have properly maintained the vehicle as required. You are responsible for retaining receipts identifying the vehicle showing dates, milege, service performed ect....."

when i bought my 2000 335. the oil change and check over was free. in sep 08' i got a sportsman 500. i brought it in. thinking it would be the same as in 2000. free oil change and check over. nope! just the check over. oil change was $50. or i could by the kit for $30 and do it my self. id say wright down mileage, hrs, and date. keep the recipt for the items you by. id say that would be good enough for me.

I keep all the receipts but also put them on the copy machine and print a copy, that ink on the receipts lightens up fast. When we picked up our 02' 500HO's new at the dealer there was a guy picking up his 2 after a oil change, I heard them say $250 and he about died, must not have asked before leaving them. I knew then I would do mine. Two guarts Mobile 1 and Fram filter$15.

I use the Purolator PL14610 oil filter, not the P14610. that one don't have the check valve in it. I also use the Mobile One 0-40 oil and any good synthetic tranny fluid for the tranny. The only thing I use from Polaris it the front Hilliard tranny fluid, There are a few good oil filters you can use, just make DARN sure it has the check valve in it. Our oil filters are on the side, not the bottom,,

The Polaris oil change kit at our dealer is only $25 Canadian. Its a good idea to change your diff fluids after a break in period for to get rid of any little metal filings.

just becareful tightening up the oil drain plug. i have 2 brute force 650's. the first one i changed was no problem, the second one, i stripped the bolt. it had a philips flat head. dealer or manufacturer must have way over tightened it. i had to grind a slot in the top of the bolt and then beat it with a straight screw driver and a hammer. got it out fine but wasn't to keen on reusing the bolt. i put what i thought was the same bolt back in but, it wasn't. i had to re-tap the aluminum casing to fit a new bolt. jsut be careful. i was freaking out.

Question:
Reason for Check Valves in Engine Oil Filters
What is the function of a check valve in engine oil filter?
-- Shafeeq Bandagi, Bloomfield Hills, MI
Answer:
The check valve function is used to prevent dry starts that could occur if the filter was allowed to drain dry during standing. It also serves to ensure that oil is always present in the filter, especially when the vehicle is started.
