Default clutch alignment

i had my engine dis assembled and now am putting it back together, in the book it speaks of a special polaris tool to align and check the clutches.
what is a way to do this without a specialty tool?

Default clutch alignment

Just put everything back together WITHOUT clutch cover, check if rear clutch moving (creeping while moving). BE CAREFULL with moving parts!! If alignment way off (which I doubt) then shims can be added/removed at back of rear clutch. I DONT use the tool,I'd rather eyeball em myself,BUT thats just me. Make sure center to center of clutches is 10 inches. I've used the tool several times, but the backing plate usually gets in my way to get an accurate measurement without someone pushing back out of the way! PLUS tool is not 100% accurate, may have to shim/remove shims anyway! MOST of the time no shimming needed on the older non ebs models anyway. Good luck
